Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers before a project begins.

Project-specific details are always confirmed in the quotation and agreed scope.

What is the difference between proofreading and language editing?

Proofreading is normally a final-stage service focused on correcting errors and obvious inconsistencies. Language editing goes further by improving clarity, flow, sentence structure, tone, and natural expression. We recommend the appropriate depth after reviewing the document or a representative sample.

Will you change my meaning or writing voice?

We aim to preserve your intended meaning and an appropriate authorial voice. When wording is ambiguous, technically inconsistent, or open to more than one interpretation, we add a query rather than guessing what you intended.

Do you use tracked changes?

For Microsoft Word projects, we normally use Track Changes when it suits the agreed workflow. We may also provide comments and, where agreed, a clean copy. Deliverables for other file types are confirmed before work begins.

What types of documents can you edit?

We work with academic manuscripts, theses, medical and scientific content, reports, proposals, manuals, presentations, policies, educational materials, and other professional documents. We confirm suitability after reviewing the subject matter, format, and requested service.

Do you check facts, data, references, or research integrity?

Our standard service focuses on language, clarity, consistency, and presentation. We may flag apparent inconsistencies, but we do not independently verify every fact, calculation, citation, dataset, ethical requirement, or regulatory obligation unless a separate written scope expressly includes that work.

Can you follow a journal, organisation, or house style?

Yes, where you provide the relevant instructions or a reliable source. Please send the target journal guidelines, style guide, terminology list, template, or previous approved material at the beginning of the project.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing may depend on word count, document condition, technical complexity, file format, service depth, required checks, and turnaround. We provide a quotation and scope before work begins.

Can every project be handled urgently?

Availability depends on document length, complexity, format, service depth, and our existing schedule. We only confirm an urgent deadline after reviewing the work and accepting it in writing.

Can you guarantee publication, approval, a particular grade, or a commercial result?

No. Editing can improve language, presentation, readability, and usability, but decisions made by journals, regulators, clients, assessors, institutions, or other third parties remain outside our control.

What does a sample edit include?

A sample helps us assess the document and explain the recommended service. The length, depth, availability, and whether the sample is complimentary or chargeable are confirmed when we review your request.

How do you handle confidential documents and AI tools?

We restrict access to people who need the material for the agreed work. We do not use confidential client content to train public AI models. We do not submit confidential material to public generative-AI services unless the client has given informed written permission and the agreed safeguards are in place.

How should I send sensitive files?

Begin with a project description and avoid including unnecessary personal or sensitive information. We will confirm the transfer method, access arrangements, retention period, and any project-specific confidentiality requirements before you send sensitive files.

Can I ask questions after delivery?

Reasonable clarification of our editorial comments is normally available for the period stated in the quotation. New editing, rewritten source text, added sections, or changes outside the agreed scope may require a supplementary quotation.
